Did You Lose Money With Derek Copeland As Your Stockbroker?

According to a press release issued when SilverRock Wealth Partners moved from Spire Securities to LPL Financial in March 2020, the team of advisors, headed by Derek Copeland had about $150 million in brokerage and advisory assets. SilverRock clients include many NFL and MLB players and other professional athletes.

Former Cubs and Red Sox pitcher Chris Carpenter (CRD 6601132) ended his employment with LPL Financial in 2/2023, which is about the same time that Copeland ended his time with LPL Financial. It is not known if these two terminations are related.

In 3/2025 FINRA permanently barred Copeland from the industry. FINRA found that Copeland participated in 74 private securities transactions without providing written notice to LPL Financial, his employing firm. Derek Copeland was involved in a customer dispute filed on March 7, 2023 (FINRA Case #23-00566). The customer alleged Copeland made unsuitable recommendations involving equities, options, and real estate securities from September 2021 to January 2023. The dispute was settled on September 21, 2023, with the customer receiving $175,000.

Copeland discloses that he was discharged by LPL Financial for “failure to disclose outside business activities” in 1/2023.

Allegations of Broker Misconduct Against Derek Copeland

Customers and regulatory authorities have alleged the following misconduct against Derek Copeland:
