Allegations of Broker Misconduct Against Elisha Weiss
Customers of Mr. Weiss have made several allegations regarding his conduct as a financial advisor:
- Unsuitable REIT Recommendations
- Misrepresentation of Margin Terms: In an older (2009) dispute from his time at AXA Advisors, a client claimed that Mr. Weiss misrepresented a margin account as having a 0% interest rate when in fact it accrued interest at approximately 11.5%. The firm denied this complaint and that customer apparently did not pursue the matter further.
Weiss is currently registered as a General Securities Representative and Principal and holds licenses in 17 U.S. states and territories.
The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) requires brokers and firms to disclose all customer complaints and arbitration filings. When customers allege misrepresentation or unsuitable investment recommendations, it can raise red flags for misconduct under regulatory standards.
Alternative Investments: These are assets that are not stocks, bonds or cash. Alternative investments generally fall within five categories: hedge funds, private capital, natural resources (oil and gas, energy), real estate (REITs) and infrastructure. They are typically less liquid that conventional investments, less regulated with higher fees and generally higher risk. For more investigations involving Alternative Investments, see this.
