Eugene Cebron “Bron” Thompson Investigation
March 2024– Wallace, NC
According to publicly available records, Eugene “Bron” Thompson, a broker with Capital Investment Group, discloses several customer dispute related to GWG L-Bond losses.
The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) is the agency that licenses and regulates stockbrokers and brokerage firms. FINRA requires brokers and brokerage firms to report customer complaints and disputes as well as regulatory sanctions. In addition brokers are required to disclose certain financial matters such as personal bankruptcies, judgments and liens.
In 10/2023 a customer of Capital Investment Group filed a FINRA arbitration alleging breach of fiduciary duty, negligence and violation of the Best Interest Rule in connection with the recommendation to invest in GWG Holdings. Damages of $100,000 are sought in this currently pending matter.
Another Capital Investment Group customer filed a case in the General Court of Justice in Johnston County, North Carolina in 7/2022 alleging that she and her now deceased spouse purchased GWG Holdings, Inc. in 2/2021 at the recommendation of Bron Thompson. Claims are made for breach of fiduciary duty, fraudulent misrepresentation, unfair or deceptive trade practices, constructive fraud and negligence. Damages sought are $130,000 and the case is currently pending.
Firms Have a Duty to Supervise their Financial Advisors (FINRA Rules 3110 & 2090)
Brokers and their firms have a duty to comply with the FINRA suitability rule which requires that they have a reasonable basis to believe that a recommendation is suitable for the customer.
